Five Florida Tech Panthers Softball Players Receive CSC Academic All-District Honors

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Mikayla Lewin, Cheyenne Nelson, Chloe French, Allison Platon, and Kelly McLaughlin were all named to the 2023 Academic All-District Softball Team.

The 2023 NCAA Division II Academic All-District Baseball Team was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America to provide recognition for the nation’s top student-athletes with the best-combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Lewin, a senior from Lower Hutt, New Zealand is currently working towards her master’s degree in Civil Engineering while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Lewin started all 50 games this season and recorded a .322 batting average, a .369 on-base percentage, 48 hits, 29 runs, nine doubles, 38 RBI, and 11 stolen bases.

Nelson, now a four-time CSC Academic All-District honoree, recently graduated with her master’s degree in Engineering Management, holding a 3.7 GPA.

Nelson led the Panthers this season with a .401 batting average, 59 hits, six doubles, 29 runs, and 19 RBI. The center fielder posted 77 putouts with two assists for an impressive .988 fielding percentage.

French, a fifth year from DeLand, Florida graduated with her MBA, holding a 3.62 GPA. French appeared in 33 games, tallying 13 hits, six RBI, and three runs.

She registered a .991 fielding percentage on 113 putouts and two assists. French is a three-time Florida Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll member.

Platon, a pitcher from Bolingbrook, Illinois is a graduate student, and she is currently working toward her master’s degree in Biochemistry. She holds a 3.5 GPA.

Platon started 12 of her 28 appearances posting a 2.72 ERA with a 12-6 record in 115.2 innings pitched and five complete games. Platon tallied 65 strikeouts and three saves. She has been named to the Florida Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll four times.

McLaughlin, a junior out of Garnet Valley, PA is working towards her degree in Marketing while holding a 3.86 GPA. The infielder started 47 of her 48 appearances, tallying 30 hits, 20 runs, six doubles, four stolen bases, and 16 RBI.

The second baseman managed 105 putouts with 59 assists for a 9.16 fielding percentage. She has been named to the Florida Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for three consecutive years.

All five honorees are now candidates for the 2023 NCAA Division II Academic All-America Softball Team. Academic All-America will be announced in June.
