third Offensive Player of the Week award that Tech has won this season
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech sophomore forward Lauryn Wood was named the Sunshine State Conference women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in the Panthers’ 2-0 week with wins over Rollins and No. 19 Flagler.
This is the first time that Wood has earned the award of her career. This is the third Offensive Player of the Week award that Tech has won this season.
On Wednesday against Rollins, Wood led the team with six shots, with three on target, and scored an insurance goal in the 84th minute to secure the 2-0 shutout victory over the Tars.
Then on Saturday against No. 19 Flagler, the sophomore scored the first goal of the match in the 16th minute to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.
Then with the game tied at 1-1 in the 54th minute, Wood smashed a shot past the Saints’ keeper for what would prove to be the game-winner in the Panthers’ 3-1 victory.
The women’s soccer team is back in action at home on Tuesday, Oct. 31 for the regular season finale against Florida Southern. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rick Stottler Field.
