Hajagos totaled seven first-place finishes and 14 Top-3 performances
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Freshman Akos Hajagos of men’s swimming was named the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimming Freshman of the Year as announced by the conference on the morning of Tuesday, March 26.
League coaches vote on the SSC Swimmer, Freshman, and Coach of the Year awards following the NCAA Division II National Championship.
All-SSC swimmers were selected earlier this season following the conference championship meet, which was held February 14-18 at Florida Aquatics Swimming Training in Ocala.
Hajagos earned the Freshman of the Year honor following an amazing season for the Panthers in his first year. The Budapest, Hungary native capped the season with a runner-up performance in the 200 Fly at the NCAA Championship.
Earning All-SSC First Team last month, Hajagos earned the right to swim this season at the NCAA Championships in Geneva, Ohio in which he competed in the 200 Fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM earning All-America status in both the 200 Fly and 400 IM.
Throughout the 2023-24, Hajagos totaled seven first-place finishes and 14 Top-3 performances. He is the first Panther in program history to be named Freshman of the Year.
Along with his accomplishments at the NCAA and SSC Championships, Hajagos has also set program records multiple times in the same events throughout the year, ending his season at the NCAA Championships by breaking program records in three different events, the 200 Butterfly (1:44.57), 200 Individual Medley (1:47.70), and 400 Individual Medley (3:51.45).
