panthers earn gold in the Pair, Bronze in Doubles, and Silver in the Varsity 4+
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech men’s rowing team is bringing home some hardware after Saturday’s racing at the FIRA Championship Regatta at Nathan Benderson Lake.
The Panthers competed in three events, earning gold in the Pair, Bronze in the Double, and Silver in the Varsity 4+.
Hugo Ruzicka (Stroke) and Omer Bayram (Bow) represented Tech in the Men’s Pair. The men sprinted to a first-place finish of 06:59.32, 7.03 seconds ahead of second-place Embry-Riddle. Jacksonville, UF, and USF rounded out the final three.
In the Men’s Double, Onat Cakici (Stroke) and Hayden Linkel (Bow), competed in a field of five. The Panthers took third, finishing in 7:27.06, behind Embry-Riddle (7:05.46) and Jacksonville “A” (7:10.73). UF (7:41.31) and Jacksonville “B” (8:00.34) took fourth and fifth, respectively.
Capping off the day was the V4+ competing in a field of seven. The crew claimed second in 06:40.23, behind Jacksonville (6:34.16).
The Varsity 8+ was excluded from the race.

“After the morning disappointment, I’m really happy with how the guys bounced back for the second round of racing and finished the day,” said head coach Adam Thorstad.
