Florida Tech Panthers Swimming Teams Celebrate Senior Day at SSC Meet

Panther's next competition set for feb. 14

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech women’s swimming team returned to the pool for the first time in 2024 on Saturday afternoon in which they hosted Senior Day against the No.23 Lynn Fighting Knights in a Sunshine State Conference meet at the Panther Aquatics Center.

Florida Tech’s four swimmers that were honored were Rae Ann Dressel, Margaret Eure, Erin Graham and Arianna Petrovia.

The Meet came down to a close finish with the Panthers needing to finish first and second in the final event of the 200-Yard Free Relay to take home the win but came in first and third for Lynn to take the narrow 131-130 victory.

On the day, Florida Tech recorded seven first-place finishes, six second-place finishes and four third-place finishes.

To start the meet, the 200 Yard Relay team of Christina Ramirez, Rae Ann Dressel, Torie Whitbeck and Debora Xavier finished in first with a time of 1:47.41.

Ramirez picked up the first of who two individual wins in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 58.84. behind Ramirez in second was Miranda Olhasso, swimming the race in 1:00.98. Ramirez would later go on to win the 100 Fly with a time of 58.13. coming in second in the Fly was Torie Whitbeck with a time of 59.81.

Samantha Bullard was the Panther’s next first-place individual swimmer in the 200-yard Fly, winning with a time of 2:15.72. next to Bullard in the race for a second-place finish was Kiera Ceely who recorded a time of 2:18.72.

Xavier earned herself an individual first-place finish as well where in the 50 Free she swam 24.36. She would go on to win the 100 Y Free as well with a time of 52.72.

In the Women’s 1000 Y Free, Leah Fonnotto was Tech’s top finisher with a time of 11:11.65. Behind her in third place for the Panthers was Katherine Helminiak who swam the race in 11:18.97.

Rae Ann Dressel recorded a second-place finish for Tech in the 100 100-yard breaststroke at 1:06.52.

Olhasso was the Panther’s only top three finisher, coming in second in the 200 Y Back where she swam a time of 2:13.93.

Freshman Casey Holder recorded a third-place finish in the 200 Yard Free with a time of 2:01.84.

Alex Knodel helped the Panthers secure third in the women’s 200 Y Fly with a time of 2:17.99.

In the final event, the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, the Panthers recorded a first a third place finish with The team of Xavier, Helminiak, Ramirez, and Dressel placing first with a time of 1:24.72. the third-place team for Tech was made up of Maja Malarz, Brieleigh Wescott, Casey Holder and Harper Powell.

The Panther’s next competition will take place at the Sunshine State Conference Championships in Ocala, Florida from Wednesday, February 14th to Sunday, February 18th.

The Championships this year will be held at Florida Aquatics Swimming & Training.
