BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Shark geneticist and Florida Tech faculty member Toby Daly-Engel is among the distinguished speakers scheduled to present at the 2024 Women in Science and Engineering Symposium March 12-13 at the Space Coast Health Foundation in Rockledge.

Hosted by the Air Force Technical Applications Center, the free public event draws students, professionals, and members of the military and civilian communities.

The program was launched in 2013 as a diversity initiative, promoting the value that diversity and inclusivity bring to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics workforce.

The symposium will feature speakers from education, industry, government, and private organizations from across the nation. There will be engaging discussion panels, professional networking, STEM demonstrations, student activities, and more.

Among those speakers is Daly-Engel, an assistant professor in the Department of ocean engineering and Marine Science and director of Florida Tech’s Shark Conservation Lab. An in-demand television host and subject matter expert, Daly-Engel’s research uses a combination of genomics, field ecology, and modeling to study mating systems, habitat use, and the impacts of climate change on shark populations.

Daly-Engel is scheduled to speak at 12:30 p.m. on March 12 during the symposium’s Professional Day.

Among the other speakers scheduled for that day are Stacy A. Dixon, principal deputy director of national intelligence, and Kennedy Space Center Director Janet Petro. More details and a full agenda are available.
