Florida Tech Women’s Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day Prior to Contest with Lynn

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – No.20 Florida Tech women’s lacrosse honored its nine seniors on Saturday before taking on No.13 Lynn. the nine Panther seniors being honored included Millie Hurt, Karly Liebendorfer, Maggie Reed, Kyla Vendemia, Lizzy Christ, Jennie Boyle, Olivia John, Kayla Minton, and Ashely Walter.

Both teams put on a back-and-forth battle which ultimately saw the Fighting Knights earn the 16-15 win.

Lynn opened the contest scoring the first goal, 21 seconds into the contest.

Kayla Minton recorded back-to-back goals giving Tech the 2-1 lead with 12:02 left in the first. The Panthers and Fighting Knights continued to trade goals as both teams were tied 3-3 at 6:54.

In the final three minutes of the first, Sophia Scichilone and Charlotte Hardie would put the Panthers ahead by two goals, leading 5-3 after the first quarter.

Lynn started the second by scoring two unanswered goals to tie it 5-5.

Carly Niro and Minton would exchange goals with Liz Clagget and Diane Dohler of Lynn to keep the contest tied 7-7 with 3:10 left before half.

As Oliva Fox put the Fighting Knights ahead 8-7 in the closing minutes of the second, Karly Liebendorfer would tie the contest at 8-8 with both teams heading into the half tied.

The Fighting Knights brought the offense out early in the third scoring three unanswered goals in the opening six minutes of the quarter.

A goal from Scichilone assisted by Sofie Bender would stop Lynn’s goal streak for just a moment before the Fighting Knights recorded two more goals to make it 13-9 with 7:58 remaining in the quarter.

Niro and Scichilone would attempt to help bring the Panthers back to within just two goals scoring at 5:15 and 4:31 making it 13-11.

Kristyn Johnson of Lynn scored her third goal of the contest as the third ended with the Fighting Knights ahead 14-11.

Johnson scored again for Lynn to put the Fighting Knights up 15-11 to start the fourth. Scichilone and Bender’s back-to-back goals saw the Panthers trail by just two with 6:26 remaining.

At 4:03 Johnson recorded her fifth goal of the game to increase Lynn’s lead 16-13.

A minute later Kayla Minton scored thanks to an assist from Niro to make it 16-14 with 3:03 left. With 1:19 left In the quarter and down by two, Sofie Bender scored as the Panthers trailed by only 16-15.

As Lynn gained possession in the closing minute the Fighting Knights would run out the clock and take the 16-15 win.
