BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Former Eastern Florida State College catcher Drew Cavanaugh was drafted in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday.

The catcher was picked by the San Francisco Giants with the No. 510th pick.

Cavanaugh did not make an error behind the plate in 2022, starting 37 games for the Titans. Cavanaugh finished with 257 putouts for a 1.000 fielding percentage.

The sophomore also threw out 22 runners which is first in the state and fifth in the nation.

The Rochester Hills, Michigan native finished 2022 throwing out 66 percent of those runners which is the best among starting catchers in both the state and nation.

He was named the NJCAA Division I Baseball ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove award winner and the second team All-State team and was the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

He went to Florida Southern and was one of the leading hitters for the Mocs last season, hitting .316 with 12 home runs and scored 53 times.

He finished the season with 42 RBI and had a 19-game hitting streak during the season. The catcher had a .987 fielding percentage and threw out 21 runners attempting to steal.
