BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – In the orchestral world, the conductor is the top dog! For the Melbourne Community Orchestra, Mark Nelson holds the baton and will program his favorite compositions during Conductor’s Choice, a pair of concerts at 7:00 p.m. on January 31 and February 1.

The event will be held at the Melbourne Auditorium at 625 Hibiscus Boulevard.

The two evenings will include selections that have tickled the fancy of Maestro Nelson throughout his conducting career.

Audiences will be sure to delight in Festive Overture by Shostakovich and Arturo Marquez’s Danzon No. 2, currently the most in-demand orchestral work in the world.

The orchestra’s principal trombonist, Joseph Ash will be performing Ferdinand David’s Concertino for Trombone.

The evening will finish with the most famous work by Russian composer, Modest Mussorgsky, Pictures at an Exhibition. As always, a pre-show of onstage musical performers will entertain the gathering crowd, beginning at 6:15 PM. Admission to Conductor’s Choice and all Melbourne Community Orchestra concerts is free.

The 65-member group conducted by Mark Nelson is the Orchestra in Residence for the City of Melbourne. Orchestra manager and principal flautist, Noel Barefield knows the music of Conductor’s Choice will be appreciated by concertgoers. (Melbourne Community Orchestra image)
