Melbourne Fire Department Hosts Awards Ceremony Honoring Employees for Exceptional Service

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Fire Department hosted an awards ceremony to honor and recognize employees who have provided exceptional service and earned promotions.

The department also recognized an employee who was retiring after close to 40 years of service to the City of Melbourne.

Awards

Driver Engineer Johnny Delaney, Firefighter Anthony Garton, Firefighter Joshua Gentile, Firefighter Douglas Goins, Lieutenant Christopher Carroll, Driver Engineer Cameron Canales, Firefighter Jason Petronella, Lieutenant Keith Maxwell, Driver Engineer Juan Sabio Mira, and Firefighter Dwane Eckes each received a Life Saving Award and were each recognized as Firefighter of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2023 for their exceptional response that saved the life of a severely injured driver involved in a motor vehicle accident.

Because of the life-saving actions they took and the emergent medical care administered to the driver, she was provided the opportunity for a favorable outcome.

Firefighter David Faulx received an Exceptional Duty Award and was named Firefighter of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2023.

While waiting to board a flight at Orlando International Airport he heard calls for help when a man was found unresponsive at the airport. He joined with other bystanders in providing care that saved the man’s life.

Lieutenant Christopher Carroll, Lieutenant Keith Maxwell, Driver Engineer Cameron Canales, Driver Engineer Michael Pannucci, Firefighter Jaret Anderson, Firefighter Dwane Eckes, and Firefighter Robert Kleinschnitz received a Unit Citation for building a wheelchair ramp for an elderly resident who had recently undergone surgery that left him wheelchair bound.

They built the ramp after being called out to conduct a lift assist for the resident and noticed that he did not have the accommodations to meet his wheelchair needs.

Driver Engineer Aaron Collins, Firefighter Robert Mikulskis, and Firefighter Bradley Balavender received a Unit Citation for going above and beyond duty to create a safer living environment for a patient who had fallen. They swept, mopped, and helped remove a significant amount of garbage from the home.

Firefighter Irvin Corado, Firefighter Bryan Stone, and Firefighter Luke McKay received a Unit Citation. After responding to a call from Brevard County Fire Rescue to help a patient who fell while doing yard work, they stayed behind to finish the work that he had begun.

They finished the edging, pulled weeds, cleared the area around the sprinkler heads, disposed of yard waste, and cleaned up the work area for the homeowners so that the patient would not have to worry about the unfinished lawn upon his release from the hospital.

Promotions and Completions of Probation

Irvin Corado was promoted to Driver Engineer and Kevin Hardy was promoted to Lieutenant. Firefighter Marc Abraira, Firefighter Matthew Combs, and Firefighter Bryan Stone were recognized for successfully completing their new hire probationary period.

Retirement

Amy Ambrose, Administrative Assistant III, retired after nearly 40 years of service to the City of Melbourne. She began as a dispatcher for the Melbourne Police Department in 1983 and moved to the Melbourne Fire Department in 1995.

During her tenure, she has received multiple awards and has been recognized repeatedly for her outstanding work ethic and her care and compassion when dealing with Fire Department personnel.
