BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department will be holding its first “Academy Recruit Sign-on Day” where we welcome our newly hired academy recruits to the Melbourne Police Department.

The recruits will sign their employment offer, securing their police academy sponsorship from the Melbourne Police Department.

The event will be held Monday, October 9, at 2 p.m. at the Eau Gallie Civic Center located at 1551 Highland Avenue in Melbourne.

The recruits have been selected for the Police Academy Sponsorship position and will have their entire police academy paid for, including books and uniforms, and will be paid full-time to attend the police academy.

Additionally, they will be eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus from the state of Florida and a $2,500 sign-on bonus from the City of Melbourne.

The police academy is held at Eastern Florida State College and is 770 hours of course work including written work and high liability courses such as firearms, driving, first aid, and defensive tactics.

Since 2018, the Melbourne Police Department has sponsored over 60 recruits through the Eastern Florida State College police academy.

We are currently hiring more recruits to sponsor through the January police academy, the deadline to apply online for our latest process is October 15, 2023.
