Melbourne Police Give Update on Hit-and-Run Crash That Killed Andrew Sofranko on South Harbor City Blvd. in Melbourne

The 23-year-old Andrew Sofranko was in Melbourne celebrating his father and stepmother’s wedding. Just hours before his death, he was delivering his best man speech.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police delivered an update into the fatal hit-and-run crash that happened Christmas Day and claimed the life Andrew Sofranko.

Police say they have located and secured the vehicle that fled the scene of the crash. The suspect vehicle is a 2019 white Chevrolet Malibu with a Florida tag attached.

The vehicle depicted below is not the actual vehicle, but a closely matched exemplar vehicle based on the vehicle currently in police custody, according to police.

The Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit is currently investigating this crash as a Traffic Homicide Investigation. The Melbourne Police Department is actively attempting to identify the driver of the vehicle during the time frame of the fatal crash.

If anyone has any information about the identity of the driver or whereabouts of the vehicle before or after the crash, police urge you to contact the Melbourne Police Department.

Authorities say the crash happened Monday around 12:18 a.m. near South Harbor City Blvd. and Strawbridge Ave.

When police arrived on scene they discovered the pedestrian had suffered life-sustaining injuries from the crash.

Authorities identified the man as Andrew Ryan Sofranko from Handover TWP, Pennsylvania.

Sofranko was taken to the Holmes Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Initial investigation reveals the pedestrian attempted to cross over S Harbor City Blvd near the intersection of Strawbridge Ave when he was struck by an unknown driver of an unknown vehicle who traveling north on South Harbor City Blvd., according to Cmdr. Mark Renkens of the Melbourne Police Department.

The driver and vehicle failed to stay on scene and fled north bound on South Harbor City Blvd.

Police it is unknown if alcohol/drugs were a factor in this crash at this time.
