Message from Sheriff Wayne Ivey
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – While “Blinded by the Light” at one time was a hit song, now it’s a guaranteed one way trip to “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge” when you choose to possibly blind one of our helicopter pilots by pointing a laser at them.
Last night while “STAR,” our Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter, was assisting our East Precinct Deputies with locating a missing juvenile, Jonathan Carl-Edward Cross decided to shine a laser at our aircraft multiple times, because as he stated…he was just “screwing around”.
Well Jonathan, in Brevard County we don’t just mess around…we lock your butt up when you do dumb crap that puts our Deputies and citizens lives at risk.
Not only did the laser put our pilots in harm’s way, it also immediately impacted their ability to assist our Deputies on the ground in their mission.
As a result of the incident, our flight crew was able to direct Lieutenant Al Tolley and Deputy Aaron Williams to an apartment complex where they positively identified Cross as the subject who pointed the laser and actually observed him from the ground as he did it again.
Deputy Williams and Lt. Tolley took Cross into custody on one count of “Felony Misuse of a Laser Light” and multiple counts of “Being A Moron” who put multiple Law Enforcement Officers and citizens lives at risk.
Cross was given a free ride in our courtesy shuttle to “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge” where he was held on No Bond and as a first time guest at the lodge, Cross got a free meal voucher in our one star dining facility, a pair of bougie matching pajamas, a pair of slightly used shower slides, and an “I Messed Around And Found Out In Brevard County” T-Shirt to show people exactly what happens when you do stupid stuff in Brevard.
You would think by now criminals in Brevard County would understand the concept of “Mess Around And Find Out,” but I guess some of them just aren’t that laser focused on reality!!
