Mims Defeats Merritt Island 5-0 in the Florida District 22 Little League All-Star Championship

LITTLE LEAGUE ACTION: THE FRIDAY NIGHT LOCKER ROOM ON SPACE COAST DAILY TV

In Florida District 22 Little League action on Thursday night, Cocoa LL met Mims LL in 9/10/11 Baseball play at Holder Park. Down at McLarty Park, the 10/11/12 Baseball division concluded with an 8-inning barnburner between Merritt Island and Port St. John.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – District play concluded Friday night in the 9-11 Baseball division as Merritt Island (v) met Mims (h) at Holder Park for the Championship game.

Mims opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st when Ethan Selph reached base on a catcher’s interference call and was brought in on a single by Lukas Peterson.

For Merritt Island, Parker Gleason reached base on a single in the 3rd and Joey Crews got on with a single in the 4th, but neither runner scored.

The game entered the 5th inning with Mims in the lead 1-0. Mims’ Brantley Trimm, and Andrew Morris singled in the bottom of the 5th and were brought in with a 2-RBI single by Curtis Lowe.

Lowe scored on a single by Selph who was then brought around by Peterson’s single, extending the Mims lead to 5-0. Merritt Island’s Carson Stone reached base in the top of the 6th but was unable to score.

Mims’ Noah Donoro pitched the entire game for the 5-0 win in 5 1/2 innings. With the win, Mims LL claims the 9-11 title and will represent Florida District 22 at the Section 3 Tournament on July 8th, in Deland.

Next up, Florida District 22 will host the 8-10 Baseball Section 3 Tournament at Rockledge LL’s McLarty Park tomorrow, Saturday, July 1st, with games scheduled for 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m.
