Message from Sheriff Wayne Ivey
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Twenty-two years ago seems like just yesterday to most of us as we recount in our minds the day that took the lives of so many American citizens and first responders.
The lives of brave men and women, who represented the true meaning of the word “America” that day, when they risked their own lives to try and save anyone they could.
From those trying to take down the evil on the plane to those running into the burning buildings, every one of them had a family that they would never make it back to.
Regardless of their age, their lives were taken from them in a split second.
The opportunity to graduate college…gone, to enjoy a promising career…gone, to walk down the aisle and start a family of their own…gone, and even the pride of seeing their grandchildren born, all stolen from them without a moments notice, by vile and disgusting terrorists with hate and evil in their hearts.
For those we lost, time forever stood still, but for their families, each day presses on without their loved one, their child, their spouse, their sibling, their friend, and their hero.
Twenty-two years ago on this very day we made a promise to never forget, to never forget the innocent lives taken from us that day and to always honor the courage, bravery, and determination of the selfless first responders who sacrificed their lives to try and save others.
On that day, they did their job as they ran toward danger to save others!! So since they did their jobs, today it’s our turn to do our jobs and to keep our promise of making sure that they are never forgotten and are always remembered as heroes and American patriots.
While we keep that promise again on this Patriot Day, our true job is to ensure that generations to come continue to remember and understand the true meaning of “We Shall Never Forget!”
