BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Saundra Allington, 85, passed away on December 13, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at Cape Canaveral Hospital Hospice.

Born in Harrisburg, PA, Saundra grew up in Savannah, Georgia during the Second World War and the post war era. She was studious and loved singing with her family and the local Church Choir.

Saundra attended Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she met lifelong friends and received the nickname “Savannah” based on her hometown. She graduated with distinction in 1959 and began her career immediately thereafter as a trauma nurse at Jackson Memorial Emergency Room, providing loving care to her patients.

After four years serving the Miami community, Saundra answered the call to serve her nation, commissioning as an officer in the US Air Force (USAF). It was there that she met the love of her life and future husband, Maynard Allington.

After honorably completing her service commitment to the USAF, Saundra supported her husband during his career as a senior officer in the USAF Security Police. She raised their two beautiful daughters, through multiple moves across the country and her husband’s two combat tours in Vietnam. Saundra and Maynard moved to Merritt Island, Florida in 1976 where Maynard pursued his lifelong passion of writing.

Saundra also grew in her faith during this time and became very involved in the Catholic church and community outreach.

Saundra became a leader in the National Right to Life movement where she made beloved friendships and helped young women to choose life pointing them to adoption resources and other community support. After her husband passed, Saundra developed cherished friendships in her time of grief and thrived with a group of friends who helped her rediscover the song in her heart through a weekly singing group.

Above all things, Saundra was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a source of warmth and comfort for her late husband Maynard, her two daughters Lee Anne and Aleta, her four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren as well as son-in-law Shawn and stepsons Steve, Lance and their families.

She will be missed dearly by her family, who loved her very much, and take solace in the many cherished memories they have with her.
