OBITUARY: U.S. Navy Veteran Preston Leon Jones, 81, Passed Away March 7 Surrounded By Family

Has been an Elder and active member of the Presbyterian Church of the Good Shepherd since 2014

Preston Jones 81, passed away, surrounded by his loving family on March 7, 2024. Preston, a native of Hobart, Oklahoma enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1960 following graduation from high school in Montclair California. After serving a distinguished 30 year career, where he advanced through 16 different pay grades, he retired as a Commander in San Diego, California on August 15th, 1990.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Preston Jones 81, passed away, surrounded by his loving family on March 7, 2024.

Preston, a native of Hobart, Oklahoma enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1960 following graduation from high school in Montclair California. After serving a distinguished 30 year career, where he advanced through 16 different pay grades, he retired as a Commander in San Diego, California on August 15th, 1990.

Preston has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Presidential Service Badge, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Battle E, the Good Conduct Medal with two bronze stars, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal with three bronze stars, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with three bronze stars and the Republic of Vietnamese Campaign Medal.

Of the many tours on aircraft carriers, he also served at Camp David, the presidential retreat.

After retirement Preston was employed by Hughes and Associates, got involved in community affairs and stayed in touch with his military family. He served on the Board of the ABMA (Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Association) for over 20 years and was presented with their Living Legend Award in 2002. Has been an Elder and active member of his church the Presbyterian Church of the Good Shepherd since 2014.

Preston is survived by his loving wife, Judy of 63 years.

He has four children: Debra, John, Dena, and Jeff; Nine grandchildren; Tripper, Dusty, Amanda, Sierra, Lauren, Toni, Niki, Krisi, and Sammi; and
Twelve great-grandchildren: Lily, Leland, Elijah, Sebastian, Kaiden, Cedric, McKenna, Ethan, Zoey, Hudson, Trip and Lily.

A family that will miss and love him forever. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of the Good Shepherd located at:
810 West Florida Ave, Melbourne FL on Saturday, March 23rd at 1:30 pm. Light reception and military honors to follow.
