BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Department recognized U.S. Air Force veteran Butch Orend with this month’s VCOP Spotlight.
Orend joined the Volunteer Citizens On Patrol Program in 2019, and has devoted his entire professional career to providing service.
First as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer in the US Air Force, then as a school bus driver in Hawaii and Kansas, and finally as a process server for the State Attorney’s Office in Brevard and Seminole County.
In addition to volunteering for the Palm Bay Police Department, since 2012, Butch is also an on-call FEMA disaster inspector for any national disaster in the 50 states.
Married for 43 years to his wife Brenda, and they have four children and 12 grandchildren. In his spare time, Butch collects cars – he has a 1976 MGB and a 1966 Ford F-100 Pickup.
He travels throughout the US with Brenda for 3-4 months every year and tries to attend a few college and professional football games.
Butch started as a patrol VCOP and given his vast experience as a trainer in the military, is now the Training Development Manager, focusing on training new patrol VCOPs in all aspects of the patrol responsibilities traffic control, VIN checks, etc.
His dedication to giving back resulted in him being recognized as the PBPD Civilian of the Quarter.
