Pedestrian Struck and Killed by BCSO Crime Scene Unit Van After Attempting to Cross US-1 Overnight in Cocoa

Officials say the pedestrian was attempting to cross in a non-designated crosswalk

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a fatal crash involving a BCSO Crime Scene Unit Van and a pedestrian on US-1 early Saturday morning.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a fatal crash involving a BCSO Crime Scene Unit Van and a pedestrian on US-1 early Saturday morning.

According to the investigation by FHP, the BCSO Crime Scene Unit Van was traveling northbound on US-1 (N. Cocoa Blvd.), north of Mcleod Dr., when it crashed into a pedestrian who was attempting to cross, heading west, across the northbound lanes on US-1.

Officials say the pedestrian was attempting to cross in a non-designated crosswalk.

As a result, the van struck the pedestrian where she was later pronounced dead.

The pedestrian is identified as a 66-year-old woman from Cape Canaveral.

The driver of the BCSO Crime Scene Unit van is identified as a 36-year-old woman. She was not injured in the crash.

The crash remain under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
