BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – A part of the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral’s mission statement is the promotion of a healthy marine environment. We are reminded of the importance of preserving Earth’s resources, biodiversity, and ecosystems for current and future generations.

The Propeller Club recognizes Earth Day and encourages environmental awareness through our participation with Keep Brevard Beautiful’s Adopt-a-Park program and cleanup events such as Trash Bash and the International Coastal Cleanup.

By participating in Earth Day activities, individuals and communities can contribute to sustainability efforts;
advocate for environmental policies; and promote responsible stewardship of our planet.

The Propeller Club’s monthly luncheons feature guest speakers providing updates on industry and Port projects and issues, including efforts towards improving the environment and environmentally friendly practices.

Past speakers have given updates on the Indian River Lagoon Restoration; Space Coast transportation planning; and Brevard County derelict vessel removal and dredging programs.

The Canaveral Port Authority updates members on environmental initiatives such as reef habitats; beach renourishment; water quality monitoring; and wildlife protection. In addition, activity on capital projects throughout the Port is given which includes issues related to environmental sustainability.

An example would be the innovative handling of stormwater drainage which helps protect the Indian River Lagoon. With the many construction projects going on at the Port and around Brevard County, every stage of each project has a measurable impact on the environment: the use of raw materials; transportation of materials; the environmental footprint of the construction site; use of water; and waste removal and disposal, Theresa Clifton, President of the Propeller Club stated, ”By working with community leaders, the Propeller Club can effectively promote sustainability and help ensure the long-term health and vitality of our Space Coast.”

The Propeller Club of Port Canaveral encourages everyone to make a difference this Earth Day.

Plant a tree; ride your bike; volunteer; clean up trash; make a donation; recycle; conserve water. There are many ways you can start to make a difference to honor our planet.
