PUBLIC SERVICE: Cocoa Police Department Swears In New Police Lieutenant, Officer

Lt. Stillwell has over 30 years of law enforcement experience

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Chief Evander Collier IV administered the Police Officer’s Oath to the agency’s newest lieutenant and police officer. Lt. Bryan Stillwell and Officer Shawn Wedlowe were sworn in during a special ceremony Wednesday morning witnessed by family members, police department personnel, and the city’s mayor.

Stillwell and Wedlowe are among eight new officers to join the ranks within the last month.

Lt. Bryan Stillwell is originally from New Jersey and has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, a majority of which was spent with the Franklin Township Police Department in New Jersey where he retired in 2013.

He continued his law enforcement service in the states of New Jersey and South Carolina. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Centenary University in New Jersey.

He also holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Columbia Southern University, Alabama, and an associate degree with a focus on criminal justice from Ocean City College in New Jersey.

Lt. Stillwell is married with two grown children, and three Siberian Huskies ages 10, 9, and 2. He is also a 2nd degree black belt in Hapkido martial arts.

Officer Shawn Wedlowe is originally from the Bronx/Yonkers, New York. He worked as a medical tech for several years, and moved to Connecticut where he met his wife.

They now have two children. They moved to Florida in 2021 and he decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. He recently graduated from the Criminal Justice Academy at Eastern Florida State College alongside two of his new coworkers, Officer Pyne and Officer Corbley who were sworn in last week.

Together, the three will learn the department’s policies and operational procedures. They will spend several months with a field training officer before being assigned to a squad and deployed to solo patrol duties.
