Propeller Club of Port Canaveral hosts Rockledge High HELM Maritime Studies

The Rockledge High School HELM Maritime Studies program prepares students to enter the workforce directly or continue their Maritime Education at a Maritime Academy or Post Secondary Institution. The Propeller Club of Port Canaveral, which hosts the Rockledge High School HELM Maritime Studies program, is a local chapter of the International Propeller Club, a business network dedicated to the promotion of the maritime industry, commerce, and global trade.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Rockledge High School HELM Maritime Studies program prepares students to enter the workforce directly or continue their Maritime Education at a Maritime Academy or Post Secondary Institution.

The Maritime Program includes:

■ Field Trips (at least 2 per year)
■ Hear from Industry-Expert Guest Speakers
■ Identify & plan for possible Maritime-related careers
■ Learn Practical Maritime Skills: Knot Tying, Rope Handling, Safety Procedures, Electronic Systems, Navigation, Rules & Laws and Port Operations
■ Get Safety & First-AidTraining
■ Learn Team work & creative problem-solving skills

The Propeller Club of Port Canaveral, which hosts the Rockledge High School HELM Maritime Studies program, is a local chapter of the International Propeller Club, a business network dedicated to the promotion of the maritime industry, commerce, and global trade.

“We help to foster relationship building and communication among Port Canaveral stakeholders, maritime industry and local businesses and the broader community,” said a Propeller Club of Port Canaveral spokesperson.

The club hosts monthly luncheons that feature guest speakers covering topics related to Port Canaveral, the maritime Industry, and our community. Three months of the year, April, July, and December, we hold special events, ShrimpFeast, our annual fundraiser, a July Fireworks Dinner, and an annual Holiday Party.

The club gives back to the community through support for the Canaveral Port Ministry, Cape Canaveral Lighthouse Foundation, July Port Fireworks, Keep Brevard Beautiful, Maritime Day Commemoration and Scholarships for students furthering their post-secondary education in maritime industry related fields and the Sea Cadets.

Members come from maritime industry and Port Canaveral area businesses and government agencies to include Canaveral Port Authority commissioners, executive staff and employees; owners, officers, managers, personnel and employees from shipping companies, engineering and construction firms, freight forwarders, harbor pilots, hospitality industry companies, law firms, marine terminal operators, ship agents, space industry companies, stevedores, tugboat companies, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Canaveral Fire Rescue, U.S. Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, U.S. Navy and other military personnel, both active and retired.

Membership is open to all interested in the maritime industry and Port Canaveral and to any local businesses interested in networking opportunities with the Port community.
