BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – Satellite Beach police officials recognized crossing guards and Sergeant Don Triebell for their performance.

For many, the neighborhood crossing guard is a welcome sight during the morning commute. Motorists, kids and parents walking to school, and residents out for early riser exercise, all look forward to seeing their neighborhood crossing guard.

Some days the neighborhood crossing guard might be the first friendly face people see in the morning. Every day, our crossing guards dedicate their efforts to helping children safely cross the street.

On one particular day, Crossing Guards Doriot Mascarich and Sofia Smith, along with SBPD Sgt. Triebell, helped Satellite Beach resident Marilyn Palmer avert a serious medical crisis.

Palmer was on her early morning walk when Mascarich noticed that Palmer was acting out of the ordinary and asked her if she was okay. Palmer inquired if she could get a ride home because she was feeling dizzy.

Smith and Sgt. Triebell assisted Mascarich, and that is when Sgt. Triebell quickly realized the necessity to call the Satellite Beach Fire Department for a medical assessment.

“Thanks to the keen observation of Mascarich, the resourcefulness of Smith, and the professional expertise of Sgt. Triebell – and the swift action of the Satellite Beach Fire Department, Palmer received the early medical intervention she required to prevent a tragedy,” said a Satellite Beach police spokesperson.

“Their desire to make a difference in this community extends beyond their duty to help children safely cross the street. They have invested their time in forging relationships with the residents and their outstanding performance is an inspiration to us all.”
