SCAM ALERT: Cocoa Police Warn Residents of Scammers Pretending to be Police in Phone Call Scam

Cocoa Police are alerting the public to a scam involving unknown persons using bogus a Cocoa Police ID and badge number to solicit money from unsuspecting victims. 

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police are alerting the public to a scam involving unknown persons using bogus a Cocoa Police ID and badge number to solicit money from unsuspecting victims.

A woman called Cocoa Police to report she was contacted by phone by someone attempting to pass himself off as a Cocoa Police Officer.

During this particular phone call, the scammer told the would-be victim that she was connected to some illegal drug trafficking and money was needed to clear her name.

The woman did not provide the caller with any information or money, and ended the phone call. Her next phone call was to Cocoa Police to report the attempted scam.

If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be with the Cocoa Police Department or any other law enforcement agency, and they are requesting money, or if you have doubts to their legitimacy, hang up and call your local police department to verify or report the suspicious activity.

Never provide personal information over the phone to an unsolicited caller.

The Cocoa Police Department does not engage in phone solicitation of any kind.
