Space Coast League of Cities Awards Public Awards $7,500 in Service Scholarships to Brevard Students

The Space Coast League of Cities has awarded scholarships totaling $7,500 to four Brevard County students earning degrees in various fields related to public service. BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Space Coast League of Cities awarded scholarships recently totaling $7,500 to four Brevard County students earning degrees in various fields related to public service.

This year’s recipients are Matthew Bennett, Cameron Caple of Indian Harbour Beach, Torrin Gordon of Palm Bay and Chase Riley of West Melbourne.

These awardees raised the bar with their academic rigor, volunteer service, and dedication to making a difference whenever and however possible.

Gordon, pursuing a Bachelor’s in Finance, siad, “The SCLOC scholarship has allowed me to pursue my dreams for a higher education at Rice University and I couldn’t be more grateful to them for giving me this opportunity.”

Gordon has always had a love for understanding finances and helping others develop financial literacy skill and founded the Bayside Bears Investment Club before graduating early from Bayside High School.

Much like Gordon, the other scholarship recipients share a passion for impacting the lives of others and finding ways to serve.

Bennett is earning his Master’s in Public Administration at Florida Tech while working as a Corporal with the Satellite Beach Police Department and SRO for a local school.

Caple is getting a Bachelor’s in Organizational Behavior degree specializing in Public Safety. Upon graduating this coming May with his degree and a Criminal Justice Technology Specialist Certificate, he plans to attend EFSC’s Law Enforcement Academy and join his local police department.

Riley, an Eagle Scout, Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture at Auburn University with the goal of eventually earning a Master’s degree and applying his skills and love for plants to cities and community development.

This year’s scholarship sponsors include Waste Management, Waste Pro, Republic Services and Florida Power & Light.
