BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Former Merritt Island Mustang standout Brady Denaburg returns to the state of Florida today where he hopes to lead his Syracuse Orange to an upset victory over No. 4 Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee.

Denaburg was voted as team captain for the Orange this season as the ‘Cuse kicker.

For Brady, he was Mr. Do-It-All at Merritt Island High School in 2021 when he helped lead the Mustangs to a State Championship berth vs Miami Central in Fort Lauderdale. During the 2021 season, he played as the starting QB, kicker, punter, and kickoff man.

Merritt Island QB Brady Denaburg and then-Merritt Island head coach Hurlie Brown after finishing as State-Runner Up in 2021.

As a QB, he threw for over 3,220 yards, 30 touchdowns, while completing over 60-percent of his passes in 2021.

Named the Space Coast Daily/Friday Night Locker Room’s 2021 Player of the Year, Brady Denaburg led the Mustangs to a 13-3 record.

Some of the memorable key plays Denaburg made that 2021 season occurred in the state semifinal game against Sebring.

With the Mustangs down 10-9 late in the 4th quarter, Denaburg delivered when it mattered most. With two minutes and twenty-five seconds left in the game, the Mustangs were facing a 3rd and 25 from their own 25-yard line.

On an outstanding run, Denaburg dodged multiple Sebring players to pick up 15 yards for a manageable 4th and 10.

The very next play, he eluded two defensive players to connect with his receiver, picking up 11 yards for a 1st down.

The most memorable moment was “The Kick.”

With 48 seconds left in the state semifinal game, Denaburg calmly stepped up and kicked a 43-yard field goal that sent the Mustangs to the state championship for the first time in over 40 years.

Denaburg’s calm demeanor and his incredible play that season made him the FNLR/SCD Player of the Year.

As a placekicker, he was prolific. He posted a perfect 44 of 44 extra points and hit on 19 of 26 on field goals, the fourth-most in the nation, with the longest one being 57 yards. Denaburg finished second in total points scored in Florida with 218.

He also boasted a .339 batting average in baseball and led the district in goals (10) for soccer, if his football stats were not as impressive enough.

That was then, this is now. Since arriving Syracuse, Brady has continued to shine on the field after being named captain for Syracuse Orange as a sophomore kicker. He is 6-for-8 on field goals with his longest field goal from 46-yards and 24-for-25 on extra points.

On Saturday, he will look to help his Syracuse Orange upset a possible College Football Playoff contender in the Florida State Seminoles.

Saturday’s game against Florida State has officially sold out.

The game is Florida State’s fourth home sell out of the season, joining last week’s 39-17 win vs. Virginia Tech, the October 21 Homecoming game against Duke and the November 11 contest with Miami.

The Seminoles are 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the ACC, its best start since 2015.
