BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – President Nixon formally endorsed plans for the Space Shuttle on January 5, 1972.

Following the announcement, then NASA Administrator James Fletcher said, the Space Shuttle “will change the nature of what man could be in space.”
