Tropical Storm Bret Alert!
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – National Hurricane Center latest report on Wednesday shows Tropical Storm Bret’s path is trending away from Florida.
The Tropical Storm is moving to the west at 15 mph and carrying 60 mph max sustained winds.
On the forecast track, the center of Bret is expected to approach the Lesser Antilles on Thursday, move across the Lesser Antilles late Thursday and Thursday night, and then move westward across the eastern and central Caribbean Sea Friday and Saturday.
Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter data indicate that maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph with higher gusts.
Some increase in strength is forecast before Bret reaches the Lesser Antilles.
Weakening is expected by Friday once Bret moves over the Caribbean Sea, and the system is likely to dissipate on Saturday.
National Hurricane Center is monitoring another disturbance that recent satellite-derived wind data indicate the area of low pressure located about midway between the west coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles has an elongated surface circulation with maximum sustained winds of about 30 mph.
However, showers and thunderstorms continue to show signs of organization, and environmental conditions appear conducive for further development.
A tropical depression will likely form during the next day or so while the system moves westward to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph across the central tropical Atlantic through the early part of the weekend.
Forecasters say there is 70-percent chance of formation in the next 48-hours and 80-percent in the next seven days.
