BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Tropical Storm Idalia has formed near the Yucatan Peninsula and is showing signs of developing into a Category 1 Hurricane by Tuesday, according to the latest report by the National Hurricane Center.

The tropical storm is moving to the east at 2 mph and carrying 40 mph max sustained winds.

The report shows the system is tracking more east toward Florida.

For Brevard County, the impact of Idalia would bring gusty swalls with heavy rainfall and favorable conditions for tornadoes on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a State of Emergency for 33 counties in Florida in anticipation of the arrival of Idalia.

National Hurricane Center says people in Florida should monitor the progress of this system.

Storm surge and hurricane watches for portions of the Florida west coast will likely be required later today.
