BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – United States Coast Guard Flotilla 17-2 South Brevard, the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit of Division 17 to host a Recommissioning Ceremony for a retired U.S. Coast Guard utility boat they have refurbished. They will return her to patrol duty as a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary facility on March 23.
The event will occur at 10 a.m. at Florida Institute of Technology’s Mertens Marine Center, Crane Creek at 1308 East River Drive in Melbourne.
Retired Coast Guard Rear Admiral Wayne Justice, Vice Chair of the Port Commission, will be the keynote speaker representing Port Canaveral.
Commanding Officer of USCG Station Canaveral CWO3 Phillip Dawalt will represent the active-duty Coast Guard, and Past Deputy National Commodore Gary Barth and several members of Division 17, US Power Squadron Commander Jim Merker, Dr. Richard Aronson (Professor and Department Head of Ocean Engineering and Marine Science) and other dignitaries will also be in attendance.
Father Romil Aperocho of Divine Mercy Catholic Church will christen the vessel, with Knights of Columbus providing the escort.
