(FOX BUSINESS) – A number U.S. airlines have suspended flight operations to and canceled flights from Israel’s airports after Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists invaded areas of southern Israel with rocket barrages Saturday.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Israel, Ben Gurion Airport, the country’s main international airport in Tel Aviv, remains open, with the embassy warning that “the security situation and staff availability could affect flights.”

Following the surprise attack, some flights were diverted to other airports around the globe.

United Airlines said that Flight UA954, which departed from San Francisco International Airport for Tel Aviv, turned around over Greenland about seven hours into the journey and returned to the California city.
