Two Melbourne residents were killed on Friday afternoon in the second Brightline train crash in three days – at the same crossing near WH Jackson Street. “The vehicle involved in the crash had two adult occupants and both the driver and passenger of this vehicle succumbed to their injuries sustained by the impact from the train,” said Sgt. Desormier. Melbourne police identified the victims as 54-year-old passenger Michael Anthony Degasperi of Melbourne and driver Lisa Ann Batchelder, 52, also of Melbourne.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Two Melbourne residents were killed on Friday afternoon in the second Brightline train crash in three days – at the same crossing near WH Jackson Street.

According to Melbourne Police Sgt. Dan Desormier, at approximately 12:51 p.m. on Friday, January 12, Melbourne police officers responded to the area of WH Jackson Street and the railroad tracks just west of South Harbor City Boulevard regarding a vehicle versus train crash.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck was traveling west on WH Jackson Street and was struck by a southbound Brightline train operating on the eastern most railway.

“The vehicle involved in the crash had two adult occupants and both the driver and passenger of this vehicle succumbed to their injuries sustained by the impact from the train,” said Sgt. Desormier.

It is unknown if alcohol/drugs were a factor in this crash, which is still under investigation.

Melbourne police identified the victims as 54-year-old passenger Michael Anthony Degasperi of Melbourne and driver Lisa Ann Batchelder, 52, also of Melbourne.
