Viera Hawks Square Off Against St. Thomas Aquinas Tonight for Class 6A State Championship in Winter Haven

Viera Hawks improve overall record to 27-4

The Viera Hawks advanced to the Class 6A State Championship after beating Chiles Timberwolves 3-1 in the State Semifinal in Winter Haven on Wednesday.

WINTER HAVEN, FLORIDA – The Viera Hawks advanced to the Class 6A State Championship after beating Chiles Timberwolves 3-1 in the State Semifinal in Winter Haven on Wednesday.

The Hawks will play St. Thomas Aquinas (27-3) match in the State Championship tonight at 7 p.m.

Viera dropped the first set 15-25, but rallied to win the next three sets 25-21, 26-24 and 25-22.

Viera Head Coach Sarah Wayne has been the Varsity Head coach at Viera High School since it opened in 2006.

Sarah grew up in Brevard County and attended Titusville and Satellite High Schools. She was the 4 time- All Space Coast Tennis Player of the Year and 2 time Volleyball Player of the Year. She also played for Cape Coast Volleyball Club winning the Florida Regional Qualifier in 2000.

After graduating from Satellite, Sarah attended the University of Kentucky on a full volleyball scholarship.

In her 4 years at UK, Sarah ranks in career: Attempts, Kills, Digs and Aces; and also holds the record for most kills in one match (38). In 2012, Sarah made the FL Region Professional Volleyball Team, Florida WAVE as an outside. Sarah teaches AP Psychology at Viera High School and has 3 children.
