ABOVE VIDEO: SHERIFF IVEY AND JUNNY TAKE THEIR “BEST BUDDIES” ON THE RIDE OF THEIR LIVES

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – While there are so many amazing things the job of Brevard County Sheriff allows you to do, yesterday will without question forever be one of my favorites, as yesterday eight members of the Down Syndrome Association of Brevard got to go on an incredible ride along with me, Junny, my beautiful wife Susan Ann and various incredible members of our agency.

The idea to do the ride along started when I was serving as an auctioneer at the Down Syndrome Association of Brevard’s annual gala and auctioned off one of our BCSO Experience Packages with a little twist…instead of the person who purchased the “Ride Along” going with me, they would be buying the auction item for eight members of the association to go with me on the ride of their lives.

Let’s just say that thanks to an amazing donation from the heart, the item went like hot cakes with the money raised going to the association and then, our incredible team went to work to make the magic happen.

The day started out with the team and chaperones getting their uniforms and then it was off to have a huge lunch courtesy of our great friend and partner, Joe Rodriguez and the Rodriguez McDonalds Corporation of Brevard.

After lunch, mine and Junny’s “Best Buddies” loaded up in their limos and our Motor Unit escorted us to the port, where members of our Ag/Marine Unit were standing by to take them on a water tour.

From riding in our boats to getting pretty close to the cruise ships, our Buddies got an up close and personal look at the day in the life of our boat captains and team.

From there our escorts led us to our Aviation Hanger where our “Best Buddies” got to climb up in the helicopters, learn about everything our aviation team does, and also got a chance to see our Motor Unit show off their incredible skills.

Next up we headed to the BCSO Pistol Range where the “Best Buddies” got to watch our Bomb Unit with their robot, our Drone Team demonstrate how we deploy drones in certain scenarios, and then, got up close and personal with our SWAT Rook and BearCat as well as hang out with a couple of our SWAT Team members.

And if all of that were not enough, the Best Buddies got to watch the K-9’s work and go after the bite sleeve, enjoy hot dogs, popcorn, and ice cream sundaes courtesy of our Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Charity Mobile Concession Stand, and then finish the night off with some incredible puppy love, courtesy of our beautiful Bloodhound puppies.

It was an incredible day for everyone and a day that I know our team members will cherish the rest of their lives as I think we had just as much fun and enjoyment as our “Best Buddies!!”

I want to personally thank everyone that made yesterday so special, including Joe Rodriguez, Victoria Timberlake and the entire Down Syndrome Association of Brevard, our DSAB Chaperones, our Crime Prevention Unit, our BCSO Public Safety Charity, and of course, all of our members who participated to give our “Best Buddies” the ride of their lives.

Man I Love This Job And This Incredible Community We Call Home!!
