BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Celebration of Cars, a family-oriented festival that includes approximately 500 antique, classic and modern automobiles, was held on Saturday at the American Muscle Car Museum, 3500 Sarno Road., Melbourne.

The annual event is sponsored by the Antique Automobile Club of Cape Canaveral, which this year is celebrating its 60th year in existence. The AACCC is a local affiliate of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Meet special guest Dennis Gage, from the long-running TV Show, My Classic Car. Gage’s TV Show is in its 24th season and now reaches over 100 million households. Gage will be on hand walking the crowd and will also select his “favorite” show car.

This year’s special class is “The Swingin’ 40’s.” See a select group of vehicles from 1940 – 1949.

The American Muscle Car Museum has agreed to open its doors to the public for this event. The general public will be permitted to enter the museum for a $25 charity donation and show registrants will be given one free admission for each show vehicle registered.

Families are invited to the outdoor event which last year attracted over 1,000 spectators. Grounds admission is free. Food trucks will be on hand, a 50/50 drawing will take place and many more activities are planned for this vey special event.

A special ”Outlaw” Pinewood Derby will take place at noon.

For a donation of $25, the American Muscle Car Museum, 3500 Sarno Rd., Melbourne, will be open for the public to walk through and enjoy on Saturday, March 9, as part of the Celebration of Cars Antique to Modern Car Show, held by the Antique Automobile Club of America Cape Canaveral Region.

Proceeds from the car show support the AACCC’s scholarship fund, and local charities, including this year’s “charity of choice,” the Central Brevard Sharing Center.

The AACCC, a non-profit 501C-4 organization, uses the proceeds from the event to support the club’s activities and local charities.

The AACCC, founded in 1964 by four auto enthusiasts dedicated to the preservation and restoration of antique and classic automobiles, has grown to more than 150 members.

In 1984, the club was granted a charter by the Antique Automobile Club of America, a national organization of nearly 80,000 members.

The AACCC continues its affiliation as an AACA chapter in the Cape Canaveral region and is the only AACA-affiliated car club in Brevard.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Steve Wilson moved to Brevard County in 1984 and has been a partner, along with Orville Susong, for the past 24 years with the Friday Night Locker Room, a broadcasting team that covers and reports on a wide variety of local events that are of significance to the residents of the Space Coast and beyond. Their mission is to promote youth sports and the space industry, support first responders and law enforcement personnel, and showcase community and charitable events that are produced by our nonprofit partners in central Florida.

Steve Wilson was born in DeRidder, Louisiana and grew up in both New Orleans and Macon, Georgia.  He moved to Brevard County in 1984 and retired from local government as the Community Advocate/Assistant to the City Manager with the City of Rockledge in 2018.

Among the awards and accolades Steve has received over the years are 15 + year Rockledge Little League volunteer, Brevard Public School Jefferson Award Recipient, Rockledge High School Raider Booster Award 2001, 2006, City of Rockledge Employee of the Year 2006, Rockledge Kiwanian of the Year 2006-2007, City of Rockledge Quality Public Service Award 2008, 2012, 2017, Rockledge Kiwanis Citizen of the Year 2012-2013, Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame – Sportscasting 2015, Rockledge High School Leadership and Service Award 2016, Central Florida Humanitarian Award 2017, Space Coast Inspiration Award – 2018,  Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame – Lifetime Achievement – 2020, Ecofest Achievement Award – 2022, Quality Floridian Award – 2022, presented by U.S. Congressman Bill Posey.

Wilson is especially proud of his chairing two fundraisers in support of pediatric cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in honor of Merritt Island resident Julie Spurlock that raised over $25,000.00.
