Atlantic Coast Conference women’s golf teams return to the links this week, Feb. 18-20, highlighted by the Moon Golf Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville at the Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Florida.

Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest will join host Louisville at the Moon Golf Invitational, Feb. 18-20. The three-day, 54-hole event will be the third spring event for the Cardinals and the second tournament of the spring season for Clemson, Florida State, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. It will mark the spring opener for the Blue Devils.

Florida State is coming off a first-place finish and tournament win at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational three weeks ago, shooting a team score of 878, +14, while Louisville placed 10th (913, +49) at the two-day event in Mexico.

Virginia Tech placed eighth overall (864, E) at the UCF Challenge in the Hokies last time out.

Last week, Virginia turned in a second-place team finish with a 17-over 881 at the San Diego State Classic (Feb. 12-13), led by Amanda Sambach’s fifth top-10 finish over six tournaments this season. Boston College placed 11th overall with a 54-hole score of 58-over 922 in its spring opener at the Nexus Collegiate (Feb. 12-14).

ACC Notes

• The ACC has six teams ranked in the top 25 in the latest rankings by Scoreboard powered by Clippd (Feb. 14) – No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 16 Duke, No. 17 Clemson, No. 21 Florida State, No. 23 Virginia and No. 25 North Carolina.

• The first Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Poll of the 2024 spring season was released on Friday, Feb. 16. Wake Forest came in at No. 1 with 20 first-place votes, while Duke and Clemson came in at No. 16 and 17, respectively. Florida State (No. 20), North Carolina (No. 23), and Virginia (No. 25) were also ranked in the top 25.

• In the most recent Scoreboard powered by Clippd Individual Rankings (Feb. 14), Virginia’s Amanda Sambach moved up to No. 5 overall. Florida State’s Lottie Woad came in at No. 9, while Wake Forest’s Carolina Chacarra at No. 14 and Miami’s Sara Byrne at No. 19 both rank in the top 25. Duke’s Phoebe Brinker ranks No. 30, while Wake Forest’s trio of Rachel Kuehn (No. 32), Macy Pate (No. 33) and Mimi Rhodes (No. 37) are all ranked in the top 40.

• The ACC also has several women’s golfers ranked in the top 100 of the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) (Feb. 14), headlined by Florida State’s Woad at No. 6. Three other golfers rank in the top 20, as Wake Forest’s Kuehn is No. 11, Virginia’s Sambach ranks No. 13, and Florida State’s Charlotte Heath at No. 15. FSU’s Mirabel Ting ranks No. 31, Wake Forest’s Chacarra is No. 43, Duke’s Brinker is ranked No. 54, Clemson’s Annabelle Pancake ranks No. 74, Duke’s Emma McMyler is No. 76, and Wake Forest’s Mimi Rhodes is No. 100. Miami’s Byrne sits just outside the top 100 at No. 104, as does Virginia Tech’s Morgan Ketchum at No. 108.

• This spring, the ACC has recorded two team titles – North Carolina (UCF Challenge, Feb. 4-6) and Florida State (IJGA Collegiate Invitational, Feb. 2-3) – as well as 10 top-10 individual finishes, highlighted by a runner-up finish by FSU’s Lottie Woad (214, -2) at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational and Virginia’s Amanda Sambach (211, -5) at the San Diego State Classic.

• Five ACC golfers in Woad (Florida State), Brinker (Duke), Kuehn (Wake Forest), Chacarra (Wake Forest), and Sambach (Virginia) were named to the Final Fall Watch List of the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel.

• Last season, for the first time in program history, Wake Forest won the 2023 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship after a 3-1 victory over USC at the Grayhawk Golf Club. The Demon Deacons claimed the Atlantic Coast Conference’s ninth national championship in women’s golf and first since 2019.

• Clemson claimed its first-ever title at the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship, as the Tigers defeated Virginia 3-1-1 at the Sedgefield Country Club.

• A record six ACC women’s golf teams and one individual advanced from NCAA Regional play to compete at the 2023 NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Clemson, Duke, Florida State, NC State, Virginia, and Wake Forest all finished in the top five of their respective NCAA Regionals. At the same time, Miami sophomore Sara Byrne earned a spot in the national championship field as an individual.

• The six ACC teams eclipsed the five-team mark set in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and were tied for the most by any conference at the national championship.
