BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – By all accounts, the YMCA Inaugural North Brevard Prayer Breakfast was a huge success. The event was held on Friday, March 29, at The Grove Church in Titusville. I was invited to attend by the Executive Director of the Titusville YMCA, Sergio Salazar. And am I glad I did! The speakers were so mesmerizing that it was difficult for me focus on my job of recording the event.
The Breakfast began with a welcome from Salazar, followed by the Astronaut High School Army JROTC Color Guard presenting the Colors. Karina Connor then offered a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.
As Master of Ceremonies, Salazar kept the program moving, but not at too fast of a pace as to make it seem like a race!
Titusville YMCA Chairman of the Board of Directors, Andrew Connors, gave a brief history of the Titusville YMCA. Kevin Bolding, President & CEO of the YMCA of Central Florida, welcomed all attendees. Bolding said the focus of the YMCA is not about how many people they can bring into the gym but is “always about communities.”
Multiple pastors spoke and offered prayers. Pastors in attendance included Barry Russel, The Grove Church; Dennis Taylor, Park Avenue Baptist Church; Jeremy P. Coppocok, Faith Baptist Church; and Larry W. Linkous, New Life Space Coast Church.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was the Keynote Speaker. It was easy to tell by listening to Ivey that the YMCA is near and dear to his heart. He talked about the YMCA’s involvement in community outreach and all the lives they have changed. Ivey said, “I was a product of that.”
The Sheriff continued by saying, “The people I met at the YMCA changed my life; they became friends, some of them became co-workers. I realized the incredible leadership that was being cultivated at the YMCA.”
Ivey spoke about multiple individuals he met at the YMCA that moved into a career in law enforcement. He said, “Every one of them cut their teeth at the YMCA. What you realize when you look at these young men and women is, the YMCA was preparing them to go out, and not only protect our community, but to project to our community the life lessons they had learned for years at the YMCA.”
RUSH Construction was the platinum sponsor of the Breakfast. William Chivers, President & CEO of RUSH Construction, and also a member of the Titusville YMCA Board of Directors, beamed with pride when he talked about the Breakfast. He said, “it is a true testament to the leadership of Sergio, and our Board Chair, Andrew.”
Everyone I had the opportunity to talk with had nothing but praise for the event. They all talked about how important the YMCA is to the community. Sergio Salazar, Andrew Connors, Kevin Bolding, and all of those involved with the YMCA, and those involved with the Breakfast, are to be commended. They hosted a first-class event. I am already looking forward to next year’s North Brevard Prayer Breakfast, presented by the Titusville YMCA.
