WATCH REPLAY: Graduation Day for Brevard County Fire Rescue is an exciting opportunity to honor new recruits for their hard work and commitment. At Friday’s ceremony at the Government Center in Viera, they received their badges, were pinned by their love ones and received words of advice and encouragement. Please join us in congratulating these BCFR Firefighters who stand ready to serve the Brevard community.

Brevard County Fire Rescue provides fire suppression services for unincorporated Brevard County. Currently, BCFR operates:

■ 31 Fire/EMS Stations

■ 17 ALS Fire Engines

■ 30 ALS Ambulances

■ 4 ALS Squad Units

■ 1 Tower Ladder Truck

■ 4 Ladder Trucks

■ 22 Brush Trucks

■ 1 Hazardous Materials Truck

■ 2 Breathing Air Units

■ 5 District Chiefs

■ 1 Fire/Rescue Boats

■ 1 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Tractor Trailer

■ 1 Mobile Command Trailer

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Brevard County Fire Rescue’s Division of EMS is committed in providing citizens with the highest quality of emergency medical service. BCFR operates 30 ambulance / transport units, 17 advanced life support (ALS) fire engines and 4 ALS Squad Units.  All ambulance  / transport units are staffed with either two firefighter / paramedics or one firefighter / paramedic and one firefighter / EMT, and all ALS engines are staffed with at least one firefighter / paramedic.  The department provides emergency ambulance transport services for the entire county, a total response area of more than 1000 square miles.

Special Operations

BCFR operates the only State recognized Specialized Response Team in Brevard County. Housed at Station #48 in West Viera, the Special Operations Team is dispatched throughout the county for calls including:

■ Building Collapse

■ Hazardous Materials Events

■ Heavy Vehicle Extrication

■ Trench Rescue

■ Rope Rescue

■ Confined Space Rescue

■ Terrorism Events

All members of the Special Operations Team must be certified Hazardous Materials Technicians. Additionally, team members receive advanced training in:

■ Chemical operation and biological response

■ Emergency response to terrorism bombing

■ Emergency response to nuclear emergencies

■ Advanced Life Support for Hazardous Materials

Ocean Rescue

The Brevard County Ocean Rescue Division provides for the safe swimming and beach protection to all Brevard County residents, visitors and tourists in designated areas of unincorporated Brevard County. Currently there are 5 full time protected areas and 26 seasonal protected areas at various beach front parks. All Ocean Lifeguards are United States Lifesaving Association certified with a minimum of First Responder training. The scope of responsibility for the lifeguards include accident and drowning prevention, public education, citizen assist, search and recovery of lost children, basic life support, and swimmer rescues.

911 Dispatch

Located in the Emergency Operation’s Center (EOC) in Rockledge, BCFR’s Emergency Communications Center is fully operational 7 days per week, 24 hours a day. The Communication Center is equipped with the Enhanced 911 System, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), and A Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD). A state of the art radio system is used for communication with the field units. Four systems are monitored by emergency medical dispatchers which maintain awareness of the locations and dispositions of all Fire Rescue resources. A backup radio system is available in the event of natural disasters or equipment failures.
