BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – My business/broadcasting partner, Orville Susong, and I recently attended a ceremony at Rockledge High School honoring recent graduate Charity Mugge as she was presented with two academic certificates from principal Burt Clark.

The first certificate was to recognize her achieving the Cambridge Scholar Award with merit. The second, and even more impressive, was to recognize her for having earned the Top in the World Award from Cambridge on her A-Level Thinking Skills exam. That means she had the highest grade out of over 525,000 students!

I asked Charity what goes through her mind when she thinks about grading the highest. She laughed and said, “I just get a kick out of it!”

Charity began taking Cambridge classes her freshman year and talked about how challenging the classes are.

She told me, “The level of curriculum throughout the year definitely challenged me. It wasn’t something that you can just coast through the classes and then study one night before a test. You had to put in your all throughout the year, and actually learn the content, so that when the tests came you knew what was going to be asked of you. It requires a lot of self-motivation and discipline.”

Charity is not only a very smart young lady, but a well-rounded one as well. She is thinking about studying Christian Ministry and Business in college. It doesn’t take long to talk with Charity to see that her faith plays a big part in her life.

She told me, “The last couple of summers I went with Teen Missions International and did mission work around the world with other teenagers.”

Charity is also very involved with her local church. She told me she especially enjoys working with the youth group and with the children’s ministries.

Charity Mugge is going to go a long way in life. She is smart, disciplined, focused, and driven. Rockledge High School is proud of her. I know her parents, Mike and Cindy Mugge, are proud of her. Brevard County is proud of her. She has really put Brevard “on the map!” I can’t wait to see where life takes her!

The Cambridge program at Rockledge High School is a member of the Cambridge International Education group that is a part of the University of Cambridge in England.  This program works with schools worldwide to provide an educational experience that shapes student knowledge, understanding, and skills.  Cambridge’s goal is to give students the confidence they need to thrive and make a positive impact on our ever-changing world.

Cambridge is over 160 years old and is offered in schools around the world.  The program allows students to earn college-level credit while still in high school and prepares students with skills they will need to succeed in higher education.

The Cambridge program at Rockledge High School was started in 2006.  Since then, the program has helped almost 1,000 students earn the prestigious AICE Diploma.  The AICE Diploma is an international high school diploma that requires students in the Cambridge program to take 7 different college-level courses at RHS and pass their corresponding exams at the end of the year.  These exams are college-level exams that are graded by the examiners with Cambridge International Education in England.  Students who earn the AICE Diploma are eligible for the highest level of the Bright Futures Scholarship with the completion of 100 community service or paid work hours.

At the end of each school year, the students in the Cambridge program take their AICE exams.  After they take their exams, the exams are shipped to England where examiners with Cambridge International Education assess them.  Each of the exams is worth a certain number of points (or as the British call them marks), and the goal of each student is accumulating enough points to earn a passing score on the exam.  Passing scores on Cambridge exams are a, b, c, d, or e.

After each testing session, Cambridge reviews student scores to determine their Cambridge Scholar Awards.  A Cambridge Scholar Award with merit is given to students who earn at least a “B” or higher on at least 3 different Cambridge exams in the same testing session.

Current Brevard County Schools that offer the Cambridge program are Rockledge High School, Eau Gallie High School, Heritage High School and Titusville High School.
