West Melbourne Police have released an update on the fatal shooting at the Reserves of Melbourne apartment complex that took place Sunday, Sept. 17.

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – West Melbourne Police have released an update on the fatal shooting at the Reserves of Melbourne apartment complex that took place Sunday, Sept. 17.

Below is the update provided by West Melbourne Police officials on the homicide investigation at the Reserves of Melbourne:

At this time we are still not identifying the individuals involved in the shooting on Launch Court. We did want to reassure the public this does not appear to be a random act and the individuals involved are known to each other.

Detectives are conducting additional interviews, obtaining search warrants, and working to connect all the events leading up to the incident.

We are working closely with the State Attorney’s office on any charges that may be filed in the coming days.

West Melbourne Police units responded to the scene of a shooting at the Reserves of Melbourne apartment complex on Sunday morning.

According to officials, upon police officers’ arrival, it was learned that multiple suspects, possibly armed with a firearm had forcefully entered the apartment.

“The homeowner was armed with a firearm and fired multiple times, striking two of the suspects. One suspect was transported from the scene and was pronounced dead at Holmes Regional,” said West Melbourne Police officials.

Reports suggest another suspect arrived at the hospital and is currently being treated.

The investigation is still ongoing. Detectives are working to determine the events leading up to the incident and any relationship between the persons involved.
