third time Cocoa tigers win back-to-back state championships
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Tigers became back-to-back state champions and claimed their 6th state title in school history after defeating the Bradford Tornados 20-6 in the 2023 FHSAA Class 2S State Championship at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee on Friday.
This becomes Cocoa High School’s sixth state championship in program history and the second under head coach Ryan Schneider.
The Tigers scored 20 unanswered points after trailing 6-0 early in the first quarter. Cocoa made plays on all three levels. Wide receiver Nicholas Teeter and running back Latrison Lane each scored a touchdown.
On defense, linebacker Davi’yon Hawkins-Ingram had a sack along with a forced fumble that was recovered by linebacker Samadrae Hawkins. On special teams, kicker Gunnar Trout connected on two 25-yard field goals.
