Circuit Judge Steve Henderson sentenced 24-year-old Carlos Jones II to life in prison after a Brevard County Jury convicted him for Second-Degree murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Sha’Dayla Johnson in 2022.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Circuit Judge Steve Henderson sentenced 24-year-old Carlos Jones II to life in prison after a Brevard County Jury convicted him for Second-Degree murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Sha’Dayla Johnson in 2022.

In a contested sentencing hearing Assistant State Attorneys Nader Hatoum and Kari Kies presented evidence and successfully argued to the Court that Jones should receive a life sentence for the murder. Attorneys for the Public Defender had asked for the 25-year minimum mandatory sentence.

Indicted for First-Degree Murder on January 17, 2023, the jury convicted Jones of the lessor included offense of Second-Degree Murder While Discharging a Firearm Causing Death.

On December 20, 2022, at 7:48 am, Melbourne Police responded to a 9-11 call of a gunshot victim at 2827 Colbert Circle.

Upon arrival officers found Johnson unresponsive in the carport of her home with multiple gunshot wounds. Johnson was transported to the hospital where she later died. Witnesses indicated that her former live-in boyfriend Jones, had been seen at the residence when the shooting took place.

At 11 am, Palm Bay Police reported that Jones entered their lobby and surrendered.

When questioned by investigators, Jones admitted his involvement in shooting Johnson after a dispute over not responding to his phone calls or text messages.

In the coming days Jones will be transferred the the Florida Department of Corrections to begin serving his life sentence.
