BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The City of Palm Bay expresses profound appreciation to the Brevard County Commission for their approval of $250,000 to further enhance Sacrifice Park, a memorial dedicated to honoring first responders who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the Palm Bay and Brevard County community.

The City had over a 50% match for this request, to include $150,000 in state appropriations and $100,000 in private donations.

Sacrifice Park, originally constructed in the early 2000s, commemorates the lives of Palm Bay Police Officers Ronald Grogan and Gerald Johnson, who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty on April 23, 1987.

The park has since become a poignant reminder of the daily commitment and sacrifice made by our police officers and firefighters to protect and serve our community.

For the past two years, the City, along with Mayor Rob Medina by means of the annual Mayor’s Ball Charity Fundraiser, has been raising funds for the redesign and construction of the monument at Sacrifice Park.

With those charitable contributions, the City of Palm Bay, in collaboration with Place Creation, has commissioned an architectural rendering that incorporates existing plaques and other elements, creating a unique space for reflection and remembrance.

Those renderings can be viewed at www.pbfl.org/SacrificePark.

Mayor Rob Medina (pictured) states, “It has been my continued mission to give this community and our valued first responders a memorial of which to be proud, and thanks to the County Commission, we can now achieve that goal.”

“It has been my continued mission to give this community and our valued first responders a memorial of which to be proud, and thanks to the County Commission, we can now achieve that goal. I am so #PalmBayProud of everyone who had a part in this initiative, and we are excited to begin this project in 2024,” said Mayor Rob Medina.

“We have a responsibility to ensure that our fallen heroes know that we will never forget the blood that was shed on the very fabric of our City and our County. Never will we forget.”

The memorial at Sacrifice Park shall recognize and honor first responders countywide who gave their lives in the line of duty – the ultimate sacrifice. The planned memorial will be three-sided and represent police, fire, and EMT. The goal is for Sacrifice Park to serve as a remembrance destination, generating tourism and overnight stays.

It will be open to all law enforcement and first responder agencies and groups to host events and activities. Sacrifice Park serves a core promise to our first responder community that we will never forget their sacrifice.
