39,142 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility will serve as a customer service center
BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The City of Palm Bay will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its highly anticipated new Building E, a project that marks a significant milestone in the City’s development.
The event will occur on Monday, March 18 in the grassy area next to Palm Bay at 9 a.m. in City Hall at 120 Malabar Road SE Palm Bay. The event is open to the public and members of the media.
With a total square footage of 39,142, this state-of-the-art facility will serve as a customer service center, housing Utilities Customer Service, and the Building Department.
Additionally, it will house the IT Department and will be hardened to function as the City’s Emergency Operations Center, equipped with a generator capable of powering the entire building for 96 hours in the event of an emergency.
The construction contract for this monumental project was awarded to W&J Construction, out of Rockledge, Florida, by Palm Bay City Council on January 4, 2024, for $16,519,379.
Funding for this project is a combination of ARPA grant funds and Building Department funds, showcasing the City’s commitment to investing in its infrastructure for the betterment of its residents.
Designed by Silling Architects from Orlando, Florida, the new city building features tilt wall construction, expanded parking, and new landscaping to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the surrounding area.
Moreover, sustainability initiatives such as LED lighting with occupancy sensors, a roof prepped for future solar installations, and sub-surface water retention under new parking lots highlight the City’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
“This groundbreaking event represents a significant step forward for Palm Bay as we continue to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our community,” said City Manager Suzanne Sherman.
“This new city building will not only provide improved services to our residents but also serve as a hub for emergency operations during times of crisis.”
In addition to serving current operational needs, the new building includes a third-floor shell for future expanded City operations, providing flexibility for future growth and development.
Security features such as enhanced access control, cameras, and new city signage have also been incorporated to ensure the safety and security of staff and visitors.
The project is anticipated to be complete in the Summer of 2025.
