BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – The year 2004 was big for then 16-year-old John Stevens. The redhead who grew up crooning the songs of yesteryear made it to a sixth-place finish during the third season of American Idol.

On Saturday afternoon, March 23 at 1 p.m., Stevens will channel the greats when he joins the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra for Sinatra, Martin & More, at Satellite High School Performing Arts Center, 300 Scorpion Court in Satellite Beach.

20 years hence, he has forged a successful career singing standards from the Great American Songbook and his own American idols, especially Frank Sinatra.

The SCSO and the Jazz Orchestra will combine as John Stevens performs riveting selections from George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Kurt Weill, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra.

The audience will hear “You Make Me Feel so Young,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and more, as Stevens and the SCSO swing through a century of America’s greatest music.

$30 tickets for Sinatra, Martin & More are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at Marine Bank & Trust in Suntree.

Tickets at the door are $35. Concertgoers aged 18 and under or with a college ID are admitted free to every SCSO concert.

Stevens credits his grandparents with introducing him to the music that would shape his performing and recording career.

“When I was five, I was introduced by my grandparents to the Great American Songbook and classic tunes of Dean Martin, Cole Porter, Tony Bennett, Duke Ellington, and, of course, my all-time favorite vocalist, Frank Sinatra,” reads the text from Stevens’ website.

“There was something special about Frank. He was so unique and smooth with his phrasing. No one can perform like the ‘Chairman of the Board.'”

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins predicts John Stevens will delight the audience with songs made famous by Sinatra, Martin & More.

“These are iconic songs that everyone knows and loves,” said Collins. “And John has a very smooth voice that will be backed by the entire Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, plus members of our Jazz Orchestra. It’s going to be an extraordinary performance.”

The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is one of only a handful of U.S. orchestras to perform year-round. Concertgoers aged 18 and under or with a college ID are admitted free to every SCSO concert.
