Florida Highway Patrol Seeking 2013 to 2017 Buick Enclave in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash With Man in Wheelchair

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are on the scene of a hit-and-run fatal crash involving a pedestrian on southbound U.S. Highway 1 at Canaveral Groves Boulevard. “The pedestrian was in his wheelchair on the shoulder of the road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle, possibly an SUV,” said FHP spokesperson Lt. Channing Taylor.

FHP: The color of the vehicle is undetermined at this time, which should have damage to the front right and be missing the right fog lamp molding.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol officials have identified the pedestrian of a fatal hit-and-run crash as a 47-year-old man from Melbourne.

The crash happened Thursday night on southbound U.S. Highway 1 at Canaveral Groves Boulevard and the hit-and-run vehicle was last seen fleeing south.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Migdalisis Garcia, traffic homicide investigators located a car part on the scene for a vehicle that could possibly be involved in this collision. Troopers advised that the hit-and-run vehicle is possibly a 2013 to 2017 Buick Enclave.

“The color of the vehicle is undetermined at this time, which should have damage to the front right and be missing the right fog lamp molding,” said Trooper Garcia.

According to Trooper Garcia, the unknown hit-and-run vehicle was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 1 approaching Canaveral Groves Boulevard as the victim was traveling northbound on the roadway, near the right shoulder on his wheelchair.

Trooper Garcia said the victim was in the direct path of the unknown vehicle, and as a result, the front of the unknown vehicle collided with the victim in his wheelchair.

“The pedestrian was in his wheelchair on the shoulder of the road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle, possibly an SUV,” said FHP spokesperson Lt. Channing Taylor.

Post collision, the hit-and-run vehicle fled the scene, and the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

This crash remains under investigation.
