BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech men’s soccer earns their way into the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship for the second consecutive year after defeating Rollins 2-1.

Florida Tech came ready, scoring the first goal in the 7th minute of play. After making a run down the field, Nokkvi Nokkvason crossed it into the box, finding the boot of Ettore Casadei.

The Panthers held possession most of the first half, registering seven shots against Rollins’ three. Twenty minutes later, Tech found the back of the net again, extending the lead, 2-0.

Casade’s shot went off the hands of the Tars keeper, Max Obermeier, but Filippo Fazzi was right there for the rebound. Fazzi slid to get a foot on it, getting past Obermeier.

Rollins had two opportunities in the first half, but both met the hands of Iker Basitda. Fabio Amaral got the first shot off for the Panthers in the second half, three minutes in.

However, it was the Tars who were able to capitalize on a wide-open opportunity in the 50th minute. Rollins pushed the ball downfield, past the Panthers, creating a one-on-one with Basitda. Bastida dove for Jorge Lamerias’s shot but came just short as it hit the back of the net.

Rollins was building off the momentum, getting two back-to-back shots off two minutes later. Bastida came up with the saves each time. Tech held possession for most of the remaining minutes, tallying seven more shots to the Tars two.

Neither team was able to capitalize for the remainder of the match. Basita and Obermeier each tallied four saves. Both teams received six corner kicks.

UP NEXT: Florida Tech will compete in the SSC Championship on Sunday, Nov. 12. The Panthers will face the winner of the Barry and Nova Southeastern match.
