BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech men’s soccer saw a trio of Scholar-Athletes land United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American honors following the organization’s release.

Sjur Drechsler, Hugo Catherine, and Ettore Casadei were each named to the First Team. The three Panthers become just the second, third, and fourth Scholar-Athletes to receive the honor in program history.

They join Guillermo Segovia ’21, who was named a USC Scholar All-American in 2019.

In order to be eligible for recognition from the United Soccer Coaches, each scholar-athlete must be a junior or senior in academic standing, be in their second year at the current institution, and have at least a 3.4 cumulative grade point average. In addition, each scholar-athlete must have played a minimum of 75 percent of contests throughout the season and collected conference or national honors on the field.

Dreschler, a junior, is working towards his degree in sport management, holding a 3.54 cumulative grade point average. He was named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll and Florida Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in his two previous semesters.

In his second season anchoring the defense, Drechsler extended the program’s deepest postseason run in 30 years with a goal against West Florida in the final minute of overtime to send the match into penalties. He also notched a goal in the Regional Final against Limestone in the 69th minute.

Drechsler was one of the most reliable players in the nation, starting 20 games and appearing on the field for a team-high 1,761 minutes of a possible 1,970 minutes for a 89.39 percent of possible on-field time. Playing at center back, Drechsler also tallied four goals and two assists.

The Stavanger, Norway native has collected numerous accolades this season, including being named the National Player of the Year.

Drechsler has garnered USC First Team All-American honors for the second straight year while also being named to the USC All-South Region First Team, D2 CCA All-South Region First Team, CSC Academic All-District, All-SSC First Team, SSC All-Tournament Team, and NCAA All-Tournament Team.

Catherine, a senior, recently earned his degree in sport management, holding a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average. He was named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll and Florida Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in his two previous semesters.

On the pitch, he has started all but one game this season, proving to be an essential piece for the Panther’s lineup. The midfielder played a crucial role in moving the ball up the field, providing scoring opportunities for Tech.

He’s tallied four assists on the season. Catherine’s success on the pitch earned him USC All-South Region First Team and All-SSC Third Team. He also received CSC Academic All-District honors.

Casadei, a senior, is working towards his degree in sport management, holding a remarkable 3.66 cumulative grade point average. He was named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll and Florida Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in his two previous semesters.

A Cervia, Italy native, Casadei had a breakout senior campaign, appearing in every game this season and providing an offensive spark. The forward leads the Panthers with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. He notched four game-winners, including the winning goal against Lynn in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
