BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The 2023 Division II Conference Commissioners Association Women’s Volleyball All-South Region Teams were announced on November 29. Middle blocker, Chiara Patelli, of Florida Tech was named to the CCA Volleyball All-South Region Second Team. This is her first time being named to an All-CCA Team.
Continuing to add to her accolades this season, Patelli has been a standout player for the Panthers in her first season at Florida Tech. The Brescia, Italy native was recently named to the 2023 All-SSC Third Team.
She finished this season with a total of 329.0 points. With 240 kills in 534 attempts with just 56 errors, she averaged a .345 hitting percentage which also averaged 2.14 kills per set and 2.94 points per set.
Along with her attacking, Patelli also recorded 31 service aces, the second most on the team.
Defensively, she was dominant at the net too, recording 84 total blocks from 52 block assists and 32 solo blocks. An Iron Horse for the Panthers this season, Patelli appeared and started in all 30 matches, while playing in all but one of the Panther’s 113 sets.
The 5’11” graduate transfer from the University of Milan, had herself a record season for the Crimson and Gray. Her .345 hitting percentage broke Tech’s single-season hitting percentage record, which was set by Kelly Currin back in 2003.
Currin finished that season with a .326 attack percentage.
With 32 solo blocks, Patelli also finished the season tied for the most blocks in the SSC this season and tallied the third most solo blocks in a single season by a Panther.
The two other Panther Alumnae to tally as many solo blocks in a single season are Janelle Branch (2010) and Kellie Cornwell (1993).
The 2023 South All-Region squads featured 14 players from 11 different schools in the South Region, including the Gulf South Conference, Sunshine State Conference, and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
