“I feel honored and proud to win such a prestigious award,” said Vitale, who also plays defense on the Panthers lacrosse team.

Vitale plans to pursue an advanced degree in mathematics. After that? “I am open to the possibilities and excited to see how I will use math to solve real world issues,” she said.

Gnana Bhaskar Tenali, professor and head of the Department of Mathematics and Systems Engineering, described Vitale as one of the top students in the undergraduate applied mathematics program.
